LEGO Ideas Doctor Who 21304 Building Kit Review – The Doctor Who 21304 building kit by Lego is a wonderful fan designed creation from Andrew Clark and taken on by the LEGO Ideas team. Including the eleventh and twelfth Doctors, as well as two iconic Daleks, a terrifying Weeping Angel and Clara Oswald, the Doctor Who set is a fantastic collection and playing set. From the exterior, the TARDIS looks superb, and the internal design is a fantastic replica of the more recent TARDIS control room fans have become so accustomed to. Fans of the Time Lord will love the attention to detail in the control room while younger fans will rejoice at the number of characters included that allow for immersive play. Is the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who 21304 Building Kit Worth Buying?
The LEGO Ideas Doctor Who set is a 600+ set intended for those aged 10 and up, but it is fair to say that some younger fans could easily enjoy this set. The inclusion of 6 figures (2 Doctors, Clara, 2 Daleks and a Weeping Angel) lends itself to play, which is a real treat when many of these brand sets seem to be aimed at being mere display models. That being said, collectors looking for a showpiece TARDIS will not be disappointed. This is a tremendous replica set that would not be out of place in any display case.
Construction is, for the most part, not particularly difficult. However, there are some tricky pieces that require a steady hand and a keen eye for finding the right pieces. Some of the connecting pieces and hinges are clever mechanisms, but this, in turn, means that the building process is slightly complex at times. It is these pieces that result in the age guidelines of 10+, rather than a 7+ guide that you might expect for such a character-centric set.
Overall, this is a well-conceived and executed building set. It manages to combine an intricate design without going overboard with the pieces, and the inclusion of two Doctors, Clara and 3 “bad guys” makes for a far more rounded set than many set piece LEGO sets that are limited to 2 or 3 characters. Those unfamiliar with Doctor Who might not fully appreciate this set’s intricate design, but fans will absolutely love it.
